Bangalow Market brings together craft, fashion, food and entertainment at the Bangalow Showgrounds, in the centre of Bangalow near Byron Bay. Held on the fourth Sunday of each month, it is designed as a full day out rather than a quick browse, with more than 320 stalls winding through the grounds. The market’s 2026 calendar is listed on its website, including a handful of months when the fourth Sunday falls before the month’s final weekend.
The showgrounds give the market much of its character. Large camphor laurel trees provide shade over paths and lanes, creating a leafy setting with rustling foliage and a forest-like feel. Stallholders are arranged along walkways between the trees, so exploring the market is as much about the surroundings as it is about what is on display. Visitors can take their time, stop beneath the trees or continue through the grounds at a faster pace.
Food stalls, perfumes, colourful displays and live entertainment contribute to the atmosphere, with a different local band providing music at each market. Buskers also perform around the grounds, adding smaller, unexpected moments as visitors move between stalls. The market’s offering changes from month to month, with the website describing a mix of crafts, new products and food, as well as a place where emerging entertainment talent can be seen. It is well suited to day trippers, visitors looking for a relaxed Sunday activity and anyone who enjoys combining shopping with live music and a wander through town.
The market has operated at the showgrounds since 1982, when Jeff Prichard brought together its first 40 stallholders. It is now run by the Bangalow Park Trust, a voluntary community committee responsible for caring for and maintaining the grounds, under the aegis of Byron Shire Council. A portion of market profits is distributed to Bangalow community groups on a rotating basis, while parking fees help maintain and improve the showground. On market days, parking is available inside the showgrounds for $2, which can be useful given the limited street parking in town.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.2 from 9 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
