Byron Bay Skate Park

Byron Bay Skate Park, located in Suffolk Park, Byron Bay, is a purpose-built skate and recreation space designed for competition-level skating as well as beginners, intermediate riders and visitors of all ages. The park is open and forms part of the broader Jarjumirr Park recreation hub.

Its main skating areas include a 10-foot bowl with a waterfall feature and granite coping, a ramp and bowl zone for beginner to intermediate users, and a plaza section with granite ledges. The layout provides different ways to use the space, whether you are building confidence on a board, working on more advanced lines or watching from the seating and spectator areas. Accessible pathways include access to the feature bowl, with seating positioned throughout the park.

There is more here than skating. A climbing boulder and table tennis table add alternative activities, while shaded areas and seating make the park practical for groups, families and spectators as well as people who come to skate solo. The site is also connected to the nearby Byron Bay library precinct, with access via Middleton Street while works on Gilmore Crescent are ongoing, according to the council information.

Jarjumirr Park has a strong local story. The community campaigned for a skate park for more than 30 years, and the project was shaped through work with the Bundjalung of Byron Bay Arakwal people, the Tweed Byron Local Aboriginal Land Council and the Arakwal Corporation. That involvement is reflected in a yarning circle, cultural educational signage and artwork by local Arakwal artists. The design also aims to protect and highlight the cultural values of the site.

Designed and built by Convic, the park was constructed between August 2022 and May 2023, following community consultation. It offers a substantial, varied setting for skaters of different experience levels, with space for socialising, watching and taking part in non-skating activities. Visitors should note that the council lists the location as 1 Gilmore Crescent, Byron Bay, with current access via Middleton Street.
