Open menuWhy it's worth checking out
Inner Pocket Nature Reserve is a protected area near Mullumbimby in the Byron Bay region, established in June 1989 and covering 236 hectares. Its purpose is the conservation of nature, rather than recreation or tourism.
This is not a public walking destination. The reserve is surrounded by private property, has no walking tracks or visitor facilities, and general access is not permitted. Entry via Middle Pocket Road, Inner Pocket Trail or Skyline Road requires written permission from NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and/or multiple private landholders.
The restrictions reflect the reserve’s conservation importance, including threatened species and endangered ecological communities. NPWS generally approves access for scientific research only, with private landholder consent. For local visitors, this is best understood as a significant conservation site to respect from outside rather than a place for walks, family outings, dates or casual exploration. Pets and domestic animals are also not allowed, apart from certified assistance animals.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.3 from 12 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
