Why it's worth checking out

Pixie Italian is a Byron Bay restaurant centred on modern Italian-influenced cuisine, wine and the pleasure of taking your time over a meal. The kitchen works with new-season produce and an evolving menu described as confident and contemporary, pairing a coastal Byron Bay sensibility with Italian roots. Beyond the dining room, guests can drop in for a cocktail and snack at the bar, have a spritz on the terrace, or settle in for lunch or dinner. Take-away is also available.

The drinks offering is a significant part of the experience. The wine list focuses on local Australian wineries while also drawing on producers from around the world and reflecting the kitchen’s Italian influence. Cocktails take a relatively uncomplicated approach, with bright flavours, classic Italian ideas and occasional modern ingredients. Non-alcoholic guests are catered for with a selection of mocktails, making the bar and terrace suitable for a broader range of occasions.

Designed by Flack Studio, the interior takes inspiration from 1970s Italy while incorporating Byron Bay’s creative energy. The space combines vintage references, custom lighting, burnt terracotta flooring, terrazzo details, contrasting colours and textured finishes. A central stone bar anchors the room, while banquettes, statement chairs and glazed tiles add to the layered, deliberately expressive setting. It is designed to work for an intimate dinner as comfortably as a longer lunch or a celebratory gathering.

Pixie Italian is part of the group behind Light Years Asian Diner, Moonlight Hibachi Grill & Wine Bar, Bar Monte and The Smoking Camel. For groups and private events, the venue offers a Private Dining Room, Main Dining Room and alfresco dining spaces, with arrangements suited to milestone celebrations, family occasions and catch-ups with friends. Families are supported with a kids menu during the school holidays, and the venue says all dietary requirements can be catered for with advance notice. Dogs are welcome in the outside area on lead, and the venue is wheelchair and disability friendly, although the accessible bathroom is in the Jonson Lane precinct rather than inside the restaurant. Located at 139 Jonson Street in Byron Bay, it suits diners looking for a considered Italian-leaning meal, a drink at the bar or a flexible setting for a group occasion.
