Crusta Woodfired Pizza Catering is a mobile catering service based in Byron Bay, bringing a trailer-mounted woodfired clay oven to weddings, private parties, corporate functions, markets and other events across northern New South Wales and southern Queensland. It is designed for hosted occasions rather than a conventional restaurant visit, with the team cooking on site and offering pizza alongside salads, antipasto platters, canapés, desserts and drinks for cocktails or mocktails.
Pizza is the centrepiece. Crusta uses a traditional Italian dough, Napoli sauce and mozzarella, with bases described as balanced between thin and thick and finished with a crisp golden edge. The menu includes classic, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, with combinations such as rosemary-roasted pumpkin with Gorgonzola and caramelised onion, charcoaled vegetables with Kalamata olives and baked feta, and Margherita with fresh basil. The oven can cook up to 50 pizzas an hour, making the setup suitable for larger gatherings as well as smaller backyard celebrations.
There is more to the catering than pizza. Antipasti and grazing offerings can include Italian cured meats, cheeses, olives, chutneys, pestos, sourdough and seasonal produce, while the broader menu includes fresh salads, focaccia, seafood and vegetable canapés, and desserts. The website also lists dessert pizzas and cakes, tarts and tortes baked by Luke, identified as the team’s French pastry chef. Ingredients are sourced from farmers’ markets, local suppliers and farmers in the Byron Shire where possible; the business also says some herbs are grown on its own small farm.
The story behind Crusta is closely tied to cooking with fire and regional produce. The operator has worked in restaurants in Germany and elsewhere, helped run a restaurant and farmers’ market in New Zealand, and developed an early clay-oven practice while working at a permaculture eco-resort in Sri Lanka. Crusta has called Byron Bay home since 2010 and has worked at local events including the Writers Festival, Blues Festival and markets. With a focus on weddings over many years, plus the ability to accommodate dietary requirements, it suits couples planning a catered celebration, families hosting a party, and groups wanting an informal, interactive meal served fresh at their chosen venue. Contact the team for a quote and to discuss the event requirements.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 5.0 from 19 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
