Sharpes Beach

Sharpes Beach is a 1.3-kilometre stretch of coastline in the Lennox Head, Byron Bay area, running south from Whites Head to Angels Flat Rock, also known as Sand Point. Coast Road sits behind the beach, with car parks at both the northern and southern ends, making it straightforward to reach for a walk, surf or coastal outing.

The setting combines fine to medium sand with a boulder-backed northern section and a densely vegetated foredune along much of the beach. Sand Point offers some protection from southerly waves, while the broader shoreline has a more natural, open character. The beach’s rips and rocky areas attract surfers and fishers, and the surrounding headlands and rock formations add interest beyond the sand itself.

Sharpes is best suited to experienced surfers, fishers and visitors who understand surf conditions rather than swimmers seeking a calm, closely supervised beach. Beachsafe describes several rips around Whites Head and the southern rocks, with stronger currents and reefs further south near Black Head. Its listing also states that there are currently no Surf Life Saving Australia services at the beach, so visitors should check local conditions, avoid entering unfamiliar surf and never swim outside a patrolled, flagged area.
